Another Old Citizen Dead
“Uncle John” Owens, aged about 84 years died at his home about one mile east of Creswell last Tuesday, after an illness of over a year. Burial took place at the Haw Hill Cemetery, east of Creswell, Wednesday.
Deceased was one of the oldest citizens of the county and his death was not unexpected. He has resided near Creswell for several years and enjoyed the respect and esteem of everyone. Mr. Owens was a veteran of the Civil War, having served in the Union Army. His wife and some grown children survive.
[Note: In the 1880 census, he was shown as being born in Missouri, but in the 1910 census, he was shown as being born in Indiana.]
