Sarah's Grove Cemetery
Crawford County,
Arkansas

*Sarah Woosley for whom the cemetery is named, was the first person to be buried here. This land belonged to her father, James Woosley. Little Sarah died at the tender age of seven years. Her brother, William, is also buried here. He died from wounds suffered in the Battle of Prairie Grove During the Civil War.
James Woosley, at one time operated a time-table schedule station for the Butterfield Overland Mail company. All his buillldings were destroyed by the Federals during the Civil War when they marched through Dripping Springs...
It is believed that Woosley organized the 34th Arkansas Regiment. He served as a Major for the company but resigned after the Battle of Prairie Grove evidently to return home with his son who had been seriously wounded. After his son died, he took his Negro slaves and went south of the Arkansas River. Later he took an active part in the Battle of Backbone Mountain and at Poison Spring. After the war, he went to Texas.
* Text taken from the book "History in Headstones" written by Doris Stevenson West and Susan Stevenson Swinburn. There is no marked grave for Sarah Woosley.
