EMMA JANE (WALKER) CARPENTER, 85, was born March 19, 1925 in Sedan, Kansas, the daughter of Jesse and Lois Walker. She departed this life at her home in the Head Community and went to be with the Lord on February 25, 2011, with her family gathered around her.

On December 27, 1941 she was united in marriage with Avis Linlie Carpenter, Sr., who preceded her in death on September 22, 2010.

She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and loved to have her family and friends around her. She enjoyed gardening and canning and preserving the vegetables and fruits which she raised as long as her health allowed it. She also enjoyed crocheting and making quilts. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Blue Eye and a member of the Carroll County Home Extension Club.

Besides her husband Avis, she was preceded in death by a son, Aubrey Carpenter and a grand-daughter, Carrie Jean Cooper. She is survived by three sons; Argie Carpenter and wife Peggy; Jesse Carpenter and wife Minnie; Avis Carpenter, Jr. and wife Pauline; one daughter, Avonell Cartwright and husband Donny; three grandsons; Aaron, Arlis and Allen; five granddaughters; Angie Mosier, Ammie Gibson, Coty Davis, Crystal Hoffman, and Mary June Walker, sixteen great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren; brother, Jewel Walker, sister and brother-in-law, Katherine Wise and Jewell Wise; two sisters-in-law, Stella Beal and Lorene Carpenter; one brother-in-law Herbert Matlock and a host of nephews, nieces and friends to mourn her passing.

AVIS CARPENTER, SR., 90, of Green Forest, AR went to be with his Lord on September 22, 2010. He learned to be a welder in the shipyard in California and Texas in his early years. Later he came back to Arkansas to farm and had a welding shop where he spent a lot of his time working on other people's cars and trucks.

Avis is survived by his wife of 69 years, Emma Jane Walker and four children, Argie Carpenter and his girlfriend, Peggy Crane, Avonell Carpenter Cartwright and husband Donny Cartwright, Jesse A. Carpenter and wife Minnie Carpenter, Avis Carpenter, Jr. and wife Pauline Carpenter; also one sister, Stella Beal; eight grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Jewel Walker; two sisters-in-law, Katherine Wise and Lorene Carpenter; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends. He was preceded in death by one son, Aubrey; one sister, Opal Plumlee; and four brothers, Bunice, Armel, Finis and William Carpenter.
