GRAVETTE, Laura B. - We learned too late for last week's paper that Mrs. Laura B. Gravette, widow of E.T. Gravette, "father of the town of Gravette," had died on Saturday, Sept. 29, 1923 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Tom Hughes, near Centerton. Mrs. Gravette had been in ill health for some time and was aged about 65 years. Mrs. Gravette and husband, E.T., were among the early settlers of this community, residing first at Old Town where Mr. Gravette established the "Old Chalk" distillery. The Kansas City Southern Ry., extending its lines south from Sulphur Springs, crossed Mr. Gravette's farm here and the town of Gravette was laid out on the farm. The family, except Ed M. Gravette, step-son of Mrs. Gravette, moved away some years ago, the elder Gravette dying in 1918. Mrs. Gravette leaves three sons, R.S. Gravette, Gold Spgs., Alberta; Will and Keet, and four daughters, Mrs. Hughes, Mrs. Fred Trout and Mrs. Frank Ernst of Centerton and Maud Gravette, Yuma, Ariz. Rev. W.J. Leroy of Centerton conducted the funeral and interment was made at Garfield, former home of the deceased.
