A voice respected by all, now quiet…but never forgotten.

George Ronald Smith "Pete", born September 26, 1934, in Berryville, AR, died quietly on Monday, July 18, 2011 surrounded by his dear wife, Alice and his two sons, Ron and Reggie, as well as a great cloud of witnesses including both angels and family members.He is survived by his wife, Alice Smith, his oldest son, Ron Smith, and his family, Rebecca, Taliesin, and Lucas Smith, his youngest son, Reggie Smith, and his family, Kelly, Zane, and Eden Smith, his brothers and sisters with their families, Burton and Cindy Smith, Dwayne and Louella Smith, Bill Smith, Rita and Bob Dotson, Donis Smith, Ilene and Ken Mark, and Danny and Lou Smith.Pete was preceded in death by his mother, Vela Smith, his father, Bert Smith, and his sister, Debbie Williams.Pete was above all, a man of honor! He honored God through worship and great love for gospel music, his family through deep commitment and great sacrifice for those he loved, and his country through military service himself and great respect for others who served. Whether he was bailing hay or spreading fertilizer, cutting wood or tending cattle, everything he did was done to honor God. His honor was shown in the kindness with which he treated those around him and in his deep devotion to one woman for fifty-four beautiful years, marrying her not just once, but TWICE! Pete and Alice were married the first time on October 6, 1956, and they renewed their vows fifty years later.Pete's voice was respected by all. It is now quiet, but it will never be forgotten.Visitation will be 6 until 8:00 PM, Thursday, July 21, 2011 at the Charles M. Nelson Memorial Chapel. Funeral Service will be 10:00 AM, Friday, July 22, 2011 at the Charles M. Nelson Memorial Chapel with Bro. David Keith and Bro. Ray Shelton officiating. Interment will follow at the Black Jack Cemetery under the direction of Nelson Funeral Service. Memorial donations may be sent to Casey Ann Hohman Memorial Assoc., PO Box 6031, St. Charles, MO 63302.
