ELD, Charles J. - Charles J. Eld, a resident of Bentonville for over forty years, died at the family home one-half mile east of town early Friday morning. He had been in ill health for some time, his condition becoming serious a few days before his death. Funeral services were held from the home Sunday afternoon and burial made in the Oakley Chapel cemetery, the Rev. J.W. Howard conducting the services. Besides his widow he is survived by six children; Lloyd W. Eld and Miss Ellen E. Eld of the home; C.J. Eld, Jr. of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Geo. W. Eld of St. Joseph, Mo.; Miss Amanda Eld, an instructor in the government Indian school for girls at Eufala, Okla. and Mrs. Lucy W. Nance of St. Louis. Mr. Eld was born in Oakdale, Sweden on October 9, 1850 and came to America with his parents when he was three years old and located near Davenport, Ia. Here he grew to manhood and in 1879 married Miss Amanda Ackerman. In 1871 the family moved to Bentonville. All the children with the exception of Mrs. Nance of St. Louis were present at the funeral.

MRS. CHAS. J. ELD SUCCUMBED LAST FRIDAY MORNING
Mrs. Amanda Ann Eld, widow of the late Charles J. Eld, died at the family home, near Bentonville early Friday morning, April 27, 1934. She was 81 years of age and had been quite ill about four weeks.
Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. R.S. Hayden, pastor of the M.E Church, South, at the family home Sunday afternoon. Burial was made in the cemetery at Oakley Chapel.
Mrs. Eld, the oldest child of Mr. and Mrs. John J. Ackerman, was born in Inland, Iowa, July 8, 1853.
On Jan. 5, 1871, she was married to Charles J. Eld of Inland, where they grew up together and attended the same village school. To them were born six children, all of whom are living.
In 1887, Mr. and Mrs. Eld left Iowa to make their home in the south. Coming to this county, they purchased a farm about a mile east of Bentonville, where the rest of their lives were spent. Here Mrs. Eld devoted her life to the rearing of her children that they might become useful citizens. At an early age, she joined the Methodist Church in her Iowa home town.
The six children surviving her are: Miss Ellen E. Eld and Loyd W. Eld of the home, Mrs. Lucy Nance of Fayetteville, Miss Amanda Ann Eld of Eufaula, Okla., Charles J. Eld, Jr. of Pittsburgh, Pa., and George Eld of St. Joseph, Mo. A sister Miss Kate Ackerman, also survives.
Mr. Eld passed away Oct. 24, 1930.
