Soldier From This County Killed in Plane Crash

An airplane accident at Chickasha, Okla., Sunday morning at about 9 a.m., claimed the life of T-5 Floyd J. Couch of the U. S. Army. Deceased was a native of this county and was born and reared in the vicinity of Band Mill. He was the youngest son of the Late Mr. and Mrs. J. I. Couch, long-time residents of this county. He spent the greater part of his life near Band Mill. He served in the army during World War II and re-enlisted in the army a short time after he was discharged over a year ago. He was a member of Headquarters and Headquarters Co., of Transport Truck Bn., at Ft Sill. He was 32 years of age.

T-5 Couch had been stationed at Ft. Sill, Okla., since re-enlistment. He was on week-end leave when he met his death, having visited in Oklahoma City. He chartered a private plane for return to his post and when about five miles from Chickasha the plane crashed, killed both Couch and the pilot. Cause of the crash is unexplained.

The body arrived here by train Wednesday afternoon, being escorted by Sgt. Galen L. Martin of Alexandria, Nebr., who is stationed at Ft. Sill.

Surviving are a 4 year-old son, Kenneth of Wenatchee, Wash.; two brothers, Tommie Couch of Brockwell and Baxter Couch of Forty-Four and seven sisters, Mrs. Bessie Blankenship and Mrs. Lorene Everett of Forty-Four, Mrs. Mabel Sterling of Sacramento, Calif., Mrs. Ollie Page and Mrs. Nellie Everett of Yakima, Wash., Mrs. Nola Langston of San Pedro, Calif., and Mrs. Della Wingate of Wayne, Okla.

Funeral services to be conducted by Rev. Hugh Cooper of Melbourne, will be held Friday afternoon. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery, near Oxford, the Roller Funeral Service in charge of arrangement

Izard County Soldier Killed in Plane Crash in Oklahoma Sunday

T-5 Floyd J. Couch age 32, formerly of Bandmill, was killed in an airplane accident at Chickasha, Okla., Sunday. Details of the accident are not available as the Times goes to press. T.5 Couch, who served overseas during World War II and had reenlisted, was stationed at Ft. Sill, Okla.

Surviving are two brothers, Baxter Couch of Bandmill and Tommie Couch of Brockwell, and seven sisters, Mrs. H. H. Blankenship and Mrs. Ewell Everette, both of Forty-four, Mrs. B. D. Sterling of Sacramento, Calif., Mrs. E. E. Langston of San Pedro, Calif., Mrs. Ollie Page and Mrs. Ralph Everette, both of Yakima, Wash., and Mrs. Know Wingate of Wayne, Okla.

Funeral services will be conducted this afternoon at the Spring Hill Cemetery near Oxford. T-Sgt. Gilbert Martin of Ft. Sill will serve as a military escort.
