Walter Seldon Standerford, 95, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle, passed away Thursday, May 29, 2008, at Central Washington Hospital.
He was born October 14, 1912, in Salem, AR, to William and Mollie (Morrison) Standerford. He grew up in the area of Spring Hill in Izard County, Arkansas. He remained true to his southern roots his entire life, visiting his family in Arkansas every chance he got. He married Adell Cantrell in the middle of a dirt road in Oxford, AR, on May 11, 1935. They were blessed with 73 years of marriage. They had a daughter, Evelyn, and twins, Dewayne and Elaine. Dad worked at many different jobs, always providing for his family. He was a mail carrier, delivered milk, farmed, raised cotton and had a sawmill during his years in Arkansas. After alternating their time between Arkansas and Washington, the family settled in Sunnyslope and later, in Wenatchee, over 60 years ago. He was employed by several orchardists, Rich Sand & Gravel, Washington Fruit and Chelan County Courthouse. He was also a self employed truck driver, hauling hay and wheat in the Waterville area. Prior to retirement, he also owned and operated an apple orchard, which he later developed into a small subdivision. Dad enjoyed everything about life, especially traveling with Mom in their motor home throughout the Unites States. They wintered in southern Texas for ten years. He enjoyed many years of fishing and then talking about it in his later years.
Dad is survived by his wife, Adell, at the home; and three children, Evelyn (Dave) DeFoe of Spokane, WA, Elaine Thomas of Spokane Valley, WA and Dewayne (Kathy) Standerford of Wenatchee; six grandchildren, Darron Kimball of Graham, WA, Craig Kimball of Spokane, WA, Dayna Furber of Fairbanks, AK, Brett Standerford, Shannon Gjesdal and Jennifer Agnew, all of Wenatchee. The family he was so proud of also consisted of ten great-grandchildren, Kendra, Kellie and Davis Kimball of Graham, WA, Makenzie and Creighton Furber of Fairbanks, AK, Miranda Standerford, Emily and Alex Gjesdal, Chase, Kelsie and Cooper Agnew, all of Wenatchee. He is also survived by his only remaining sibling, Noble Standerford of Springfield, MO; and many special nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother and father; brothers, Roby, Guy and Joe Standerford, all of Wenatchee; sisters, Gladys Pearson and Ella Blevins of Oxford, AR; and an infant great-grandson, Conner Agnew of Wenatchee.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 3, 2008, from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. and Services will be held Wednesday, June 4, 2008, at 2:00 p.m., both at Jones & Jones ~ Betts Funeral Chapel, Wenatchee. Memorials may be made to Central Washington Hospital Foundation. Jones & Jones ~ Betts Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
