White River Current, Calico Rock, Arkansas, January 29, 1987:

Orville Raymond Simmons 81 of Brockwell, died January 20, 1987 at Salem. He was a retired farmer and had been a resident of the area all of his life.

Survivors include: his wife, Alpha Yancey Simmons of Brockwell; 1 brother, Eston Simmons of Brockwell; G. W. & Lena Mae Hammett of Brockwell.

Services were held January 22 at Pleasant Ridge Missionary Baptist Church, Brockwell, with Duane Flood officiating.

Pallbearers were: Juney Smith, Richard Roberts, Jerry Stuart, Ronnie Dockins, Vernon Neal and Gordon Owens.

Burial was at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Brockwell, under the direction of Howard Funeral Home.

Alpha Clara Yancey Simmons, daughter of the late Walter and Viney Porterfield Yancey, was born May 15, 1911 in Oxford. She died August 24, 2000 in Melbourne. She was 89.

Mrs. Simmons was united in marriage to Orville Raymond Simmons May 16, 1926 in Brockwell. She spent her life as a housewife. She was a member of the Pleasant Ridge Missionary Baptist Church in Oxford.

Survivors include one daughter, Lena Hammett of Brockwell; one sister, Edna Smith of Evening Shade; two great-grandchildren, Dalton and Morgan Carpenter and a host of nieces nephews and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; son-in-law, G. W. Hammett; four brothers, Hubert Yancey, Almon Yancey, Utley Yancey and Leonard Yancey and three sisters, Effie Simmons, Elsie Simmons, Elsie Weston and Vellie Neal.

Funeral services were held August 26, 2000 at the Roman and Billy Howard Memorial Chapel in Melbourne with Carl Cravens and Jessie McDonald officiating. Pallbearers were Randy Carpenter, Harold Hamley, Lowell Melton, Vernon Neal Ronnie Dockins and Steve Stevenson. Honorary pallbearers were Revel Simons, Gunie Smith, Paul Dean Weston, Harold Carpenter, Clifford Carpenter, Dalton Carpenter, Morgan Carpenter and Ricky Neal.

Interment was at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery under the direction of Eddie’s Family Funeral Home of Melbourne.
