SPRINGDALE - Joda Roberts, of Springdale, was born Nov. 16, 1922, in Spring Valley, Ark., to Josiah Hackney and Ollie May Jones Roberts. Joda passed from this life on Aug. 5, 2011, at Fayetteville, Ark.

As small boy, Joda played in the Spring Valley and Burkshed areas and explored the creeks, rivers and caves in the War Eagle Mill area, which was founded by his paternal great grandparents Sylvanus and Catherine Blackburn. Joda has many friends and family in the area. Joda lived several years in Sacramento, Calif., and has friends throughout the United States. He was an outstanding member of his community and was a member of the Phillips Chapel Freewill Baptist Church in Springdale.

Joda served his country in the United States Army's Battery A of the 546th AAA Battalion in World War II serving in Germany, France and various other places in Europe.

He was honorably discharged on Jan. 3, 1946, having received three Bronze Stars for his service.

He owned and operated Elmdale Transmission Service in Springdale for many years. Following the war he returned to Northwest Arkansas and cared for his parents and brother, Tom, until their passing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, John, Tom and Louis, and his six sisters, Katie, Rachel Phillips, Jo Belle, Montez, Ruby Rice and Inez.

He is survived by nieces, Mary Rice Miles, Mildred Roberts Collier, Joyce Roberts Johnson and Mildred Phillips; nephews, Cecil Phillips, Bob Roberts, and their families as well as many other nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2011, at 2 p.m. at Sisco Funeral Chapel of Springdale with Rev. Eldon Bagwell officiating. Burial will be in the Austin Cemetery near the community of Best.

Visitation will be Monday. from 5 to 7 p.m., at Sisco Funeral Chapel.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 3291 S. Thompson St. # D104, Springdale, AR 72764-7357.

Joda will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
