McQUAID, Wm. - Wm. McQuaid died Tuesday morning at 2:45 o'clock at the home of his brother, J.L. McQuaid, in the west part of Springdale. he had been in ill health for some time and for the past few weeks it was realized that the end was only a question of a short time. Funeral services were held at the residence Wednesday morning at ten o'clock, conducted by Eld. H.F. Lively, pastor of the Christian Church, and the remains were interred in Bluff Cemetery. Wm. McQuaid was a son of Joel H. and Mary McQuaid and was born near Edinburg, Johnson County, Ind. June 8, 1830. He was the eldest of six sons and four daughters, all of whom have preceded him except the brother at this place and a sister, Mrs. Fay Nettie Ellis, whose home is at Thompson, Iowa. When 19 years of age deceased moved with his parents from Indiana to Marshall County, Ill. where he was united in marriage to Adaline Livingston. When the call came for volunteers during the Civil War he enlisted in the Federal army, serving until the end of the war. Soon after returning home he lost his wife and two sons. Later in life he remarried and on the death of his second wife some sixteen years ago he came to Springdale and made his home with his brother. At the age of nineteen years he joined the Christian Church, remaining a member until his death. "Uncle Billy," as he was known to most people in Springdale, was esteemed and respected by all as a good citizen and an honorable and upright man.
