Only Four Days Between Deaths of Mr. & Mrs. Long

With the death of Mr. George F. Long at his home near Wideman Wednesday, January 9 and that of his wife, Mary Elizabeth Long, four days earlier, Saturday, January 5, this section loses one of its oldest and most highly respected couples. Both had been seriously ill several weeks. Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Long (nee Billingsley) died at the home at the age of 87.

The funeral was held Sunday, services being conducted by Rev.. W. T. Watson, pastor of the Methodist Church of Calico Rock. Burial was in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery, with the McGuire Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Long was a resident of Izard county during her entire lifetime. She was born at Franklin, where she spent the early part of her life and following her marriage moved to the Wideman vicinity. She became a Christian at an early age and united with the Methodist Church, remaining a faithful member until death.

Mr. Long was 89 years of age and all of his life was spent in Arkansas. He came to Izard County as a child and located in the Wideman community some seventy years ago, where he was engaged at farming until ill health forced his retirement. He was a devout Christian and was one of the community's best citizens.

Funeral services for Mr. Long were held Thursday afternoon, with Rev. W. T. Watson in charge. Burial was in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Surviving, are two sons, Frank of Forty Four and Stokley Long of the home; five daughters, Mrs. Victor Tyler of Gassville, Ark., Mrs. Ross Rodman of Monitor, Wash., Mrs. Arthur Moser of Batesville, Ark., Mrs. Nora Kankey of Wideman, Ark., and Mrs. H. C. Jones of Chicago, Ill.; 18 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Also surviving Mrs. Long are two brothers, Dave Billingsley of Wenatchee, Wash., and Steve Billingsley of Franklin, Ark.; one sister, Mrs. Lissie Wolf of Wichita Falls, Texas.

Other survivors of Mr. Long are two brothers, Nathan Long and Henry Long of the Piney community.
