Arthur Smart Commits Suicide
Arthur Smart, citizen of the Band Mill neighborhood committed suicide Sunday afternoon by shooting himself with a shotgun, at the home of his son, Ernest. There was no one present and the finding of the body on the porch with the gun nearby told the story.
Mr. Smart has been in Arkansas near 40 years, coming here from Missouri. He was well known here. The cause of the sudden ending of his life was failing health due to cancer, which recent treatment had failed to conquer. He leaves a wife and seven children, who were present at the burial which took place at Pleasant Grove, Monday afternoon, the 27th.

Arthur Smart Commits Suicide
Arthur Smart aged 60 farmer who lived at Bandmill seven miles northwest of here, committed suicide Sunday afternoon at the home of his son, Ernest Smart. The family was away from home and the body was found on the front porch. From all appearances it seemed that the act had been completed by placing the mouth of a No. 12 shot-gun just under the chin and discharging by working the trigger with a cane. Supposition is that suicide was the result of despondency over ill health and cancer of the mouth and nose.
[Note: The gravestone shows a death date of 1932, however, the stories of his death indicated that the correct date was 1933, and the Arkansas Death Index shows that Arthur C. Smart d. 3-20-1933 in Izard County.
