BROWN, J.P. - Dr. J.P. Brown, one of the most prominent citizens of Rogers, died at his home at that place last Thursday. Dr. Brown was one of the state's most aggressive fighters against the "white plague," the disease to which he himself later fell a victim, and was well and favorably known by the medical fraternity throughout the state.

Dr. J.P. Brown died at five o'clock this morning at his residence on North Third Street of tuberculosis of the liver from which he had suffered for many months. Funeral services will be held at the Christian church Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock and will be conducted by Rev. J.P. Dillon. By the death of Dr. Brown Rogers loses one of its best and most enterprising citizens. He was a born "booster" and he at all times stood ready and willing to assist in every possible way in the upbuilding of every worthy enterprise. He gave freely of his time and money in the work of the old and new Commercial Clubs and has served as an officer and on its committees. Enthusiastic in everything he undertook he has been a prominent factor in many local enterprises. He was the chief factor in the formation of the Mutual Aid Union; built the sanitorium, now used for the Tourist Hotel and had more than a local reputation as a specialist in tuberenlar {sic} troubles. Dr. Brown was born at Heber, this state, Sept. 22, 1867; graduated from the Peabody Normal College of Nashville, Tenn.; was a school teacher for several years in Arkansas and Texas and then graduated from the medical department of the University of Los Angeles, Calif. in 1892. He then took a four years post graduate course in the Chicago Medical College. He was married July 23, 1896 to Miss Florence Lenox, who survives him. They came to Rogers from Heber eight years ago and have since made this their home. Since the building of the sanitorium five years ago Dr. Brown has been a partner in the practice of medicine with his father-in-law, Dr. Lenox. He leaves two brothers, Chas. and Samuel Brown of near Heber, as well as a half-brother, C.F. Peeler. Until a year ago Dr. Brown had been a member of the M.E. church, South. At that time he united with the church known as the Christadelphian church. Dr. Brown made a long hard struggle for recovery and at time the family were greatly encouraged. The long fight served to arouse the interest of the entire community and their sympathy goes out to the bereaved wife and parents.

{from The Eureka Springs Daily} Mrs. M.M. Slason leaves this afternoon for Rogers to be with her niece, the widow of Dr. J.P. Brown, in her first days of grief and loneliness. The bereaved woman watched day and night by her husband's bed side for 19 weeks with very little rest and Mrs. Slason feels that she is needed at Rogers more now than at the death of her nephew when there were so many others to comfort and sympathize.
