Daughter of Joseph Frank & Matilda Martin Garner.

Maggie Verneen Garner Rowden, 88, of Salem (Fulton County), mother of Hoyt Rowden of Greenbrier and Kathryn Starr of Conway, died Saturday (April 5, 2003).

Born Oct. 15, 1914, in Wideman (Izard County), a daughter of the late Joe Frank and Matilda Martin Garner, she was a homemaker, owner/operator of Rowden General Merchandise in Oxford (Izard County) and director of the Oxford Senior Citizens Center. She was a member of Salem Church of Christ.

She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Remmel Seth Rowden; her second husband, Ed Ward; a son, John Houston Rowden III; two brothers, Roy and Noel Garner; and four sisters, Ethel Youngblood Wyatt, Earlene Helm, Ruby Pearson and Mildred Ogle Young.

Other survivors are three other daughters, Colene Cochran of Yakima, Wash., Paulette Dockins of Salem, and Lana Blankenship of Marion; 10 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Salem Church of Christ with David Gibson officiating. Burial will be in Oxford Cemetery by Barker Funeral Home in Salem.

Pallbearers will be Greg Rowden, Mark Rowden, Joe Dockins, Scott Starr, Steve Starr, Alex Blankenship and Clint Blankenship.

Memorials may be made to Salem Church of Christ Building Fund.
