March 1, 1885 - July 2, 1974
Gerard Joseph Bensberg, 89, a prominent Camden businessman, died in his home early this morning. Graveside services for Mr. Bensberg will be held Wednesday at 4 p.m. at the Greenwood Cemetery Annex, under the direction of Proctor Funeral Home of Camden. Memorial Service to follow in the church, with Dr. Martin Singleton and Rev. Charles O. Walthall. Mr. Bensberg was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Camden where he had served as deacon and the founder of Bensberg Music Store. He was also the last surviving charter member of the Country Club, and had made his home in Camden since 1906. He was active in the Chamber of Commerce. He is survived by four sons, Rev. William B. Bensberg of Marshall, Mo., Charles S. Bensberg of Morgantown, N.C., Thomas E. Bensberg of Camden and Dr. Gerard J. Bensberg, Jr. of Lubbock, Tex., three daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Ann Murphy of Batesville, Mrs. Grace Hayden of Ft. Smith and Mrs. Margaret Sessions of Camden, one brother, Carl Bensberg of Carmel, Calif., one sister Mrs. Mary McCormick of St. Clara, Calif., 13 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. A memorial fund for Mr. Bensberg has been established at the First Presbyterian Church. (Camden News - July 2, 1974)
