Earl Edmonston Passes Away

William Earl Edmonston, the son of the late W. O. "Owen" and Ada Forrest Edmonston, was born near Violet Hill January 22, 1900 and passed away at his home in Oxford June 4, 1960 at the age of 60 years, 4 months and 13 days. His death ended a long and lingering illness.

He became a Christian at the age of 26 years, having been converted in the home during the progress of a revival meeting and lived a consecrated life to the end. By profession Mr. Edmonston was a merchant and a stock dealer. At the time of his death he was on the board of aldermen of the Oxford City Council. He was a life long resident of Izard County and had been a citizen of Oxford for 35 years. He was a man having deep civic interests and was a business man and a citizen of high standards and principles.

He was married July 8, 1923 at Oxford to Miss Tressie Lee Smith who survives him. In addition to his companion of the home he is survived by one uncle, Howard Edmonston of West Plains, Mo., numerous cousins and a host of friends from whose presence he will be greatly missed.

Funeral services for the deceased were held Monday afternoon at the Oxford Methodist Presbyterian Church with the Reverends Remmel Rowden and Graham Sellars officiating. The Memorial Songs, "What a Friend We Have in Jesus", "Nearer My God to Thee", and "Does Jesus Care?" were directed by Graydon Bone accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Otho "Ruth" Webb.

Burial was made in the Oxford Cemetery by Crouch Funeral Service of Batesville. Pallbearers were active: Edison Dillard, Roy Hinson, Paul Grills, Ed Kankey, Jim Graham and John Taylor. Honorary: Uen Benbrook, Marion Cooper, Branson Tatum, Aaron McVey, Claude Caldwell, Shelby Yancey and Joe Clifft.
