June 5, 1915 - August 4, 1943
Funeral rites for Cpl. Rupert N. Arnold of Camden, son of the late John T. Arnold and Annie Mae Arnold, will be conducted Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of Proctor's Funeral Home. Corporal Arnold was born June 5, 1915, and died August 4, 1943, from wounds received on August 3 at Munda on New Georgia Island. He was awarded the Purple Heart. Corporal Arnold entered the Army in June, 1941, and was assigned overseas in December, 1941, and was in Hawaii until December, 1942, later serving at Guadalcanal and the Solomons. He is survived by two brothers, J. T. Arnold and Edwin R. Arnold, and a sister, Mrs. Jasper B. Morris, and his stepmother, Mrs. John T. Arnold, all of Camden. Pallbearers will be: Robert Pickett, Harry Stewart, John Ritchie Usrey, Goodwin White, Donald Cathey, Thomas Patton, Francis Cathey, and Curtis Rogers. (Camden News - June 28, 1948)
