MAHANEY, James Emanuel - James Emanuel Mahaney was born in Monroe county, Ky. Feb. 10, 1856. When two years of age his parents moved to Mt. Vernon, Ill. where he grew to manhood. In 1877 he moved with his parents to Arkansas and located in what is known as the Horsley settlement. At that time Rogers was not on the map. In 1879 he went to Missouri and on June 21, 1880 in Richmond, Mo. he married Miss Fannie Shirley. One year later he brought his wife to Arkansas and they were living near Rogers when the first passenger train passed through this section. He was a brick moulder by trade, having made the brick which were used in the oldest building in town. He confessed his faith in Christ and was baptized Aug. 10, 1889 and was a member of the First Christian church till he left this life Nov. 30, 1920. He is survived by a wife and three children: Claud C. and Rufus R. of Rogers and Mrs. Willa L. Smith of Denison, Texas. The funeral was from his home on East Willow street, conducted by Rev. J.W. Shockley and interment was made in the city cemetery.
