NEWMAN, Margaret Maria BROOKS - Mrs. Margaret Newman died at her home in the west part of town last Thursday afternoon, Sept. 22, 1921, aged about 77 years, following several months of very poor health. Margaret Maria Brooks was born in Pickens county, S. Carolina October 15, 1844 and later moved to Georgia where on Sept. 15, 1865 she was married to James Newman. They moved to Benton county in 1874 and settled in "Georgia" neighborhood. Later they lived south of town, near the K.C.S. tracks, where about 15 years ago Mr. Newman was run down on a culvert by a train and was killed. Since, Mrs. Newman has been living in Gravette. She was a sister of the late Isham A. Brooks, counted among our pioneers and has a host of relatives here about. Nellie Garman, a young relative of Mrs. Newman, has been her faithful companion for several years. The funeral was conducted at the Baptist church Friday, she having been a faithful member of this denomination since the age of 15; Rev. I.M. Phillips conducted the services. Burial was at Bethel cemetery. The relatives have the sympathy of the community in the passing out of this good old soul.
