SUMMERS, William - The final roll call has been answered by William Summers, who died March 16th at 2:30 a.m. at his home two and one half miles southeast of Rogers. Funeral services were conducted at the home Monday morning at ten o'clock by Elder H.P. Church of Springdale. After the services the remains were laid to rest in the Rogers cemetery. The subject of this article was born in Jackson Co., Ala. April 2, 1849. He moved with his parents to Stone Co., Mo. in 1856 and lived there until the close of the war. He then moved to Carroll Co., Ark. where he was married in September 1870 to Miss Cornelia Richard. To this union was born two sons. His wife died in 1875 and in 1882 he was married to Miss Mary C. Bettis. To them four children were born, only one of whom is now alive, as is also one of his older sons. In September of 1901 Bro. Summers came to Benton county where he has since made his home. In 1886 Bro. Summers and wife took a homeless little girl to raise and she was loved and cared for as one of their own. She is now Mrs. Hattie Stephens of Washburn, Mo. Shortly after the death of his first wife, Bro. Summers professed faith in Christ and lived a consistent Christian life until his Saviour called him home. Our heart's sympathy is extended to the sorrowing wife and children. H.P. Church.
