WUNDER, Mary Isabella ASHWORTH - Mrs. I.S. Wunder died Sunday morning at half-past seven o'clock at her home in this city. Her death had been hourly expected for a day or two by the family and doctors, but a great many of our people did not know her condition was considered so serious and the news of her death came as a great surprise to them. Mrs. Wunder was taken ill with typhoid fever the first day of September. Complications arose soon that made the case a dangerous one and though several times she seemed on the road to recovery it was only temporary. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the M.E. church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Wheeler. A large number of friends were in attendance. Mary Isabella Ashworth was born March 29, 1851 near Evansville, Indiana. Late in the 60's her father moved to Eastern Kansas and about 1871 to Springfield, Mo. The deceased united with the M.E. church there in 1873. She was married September 24, 1874 to Isaac Stokes Wunder and they made their home in Springfield until 1891 when they came to Rogers where they have since resided. Mr. Wunder, who is one of the best known railway mail clerks in the Southwest, survives her and they have two children, Mrs. C.O. Short of Rogers and Milton Wunder of Joplin, both of whom were here at their mother's death. Mrs. Wunder's mother, Mrs. John M. Ashworth, and two sisters, Mrs. Chas. McCann and Miss Ella Ashworth, all of Springfield, were also here as was her brother, J.W. Ashworth, who has made his home here the past years. The deceased was one of the best known women in Rogers. At various times during her residence here she has been engaged in the millinery and notion business and at the time of her death was living over the Racket Store, which she started last fall in the Rearick building. Mrs. Wunder was a woman of impulse, generous and kind hearted, a friend to everyone in need and always ready to help in every public enterprise. Full of business, overflowing with energy, interested in many lives, she was one of the best known figures in Rogers. Her death will be regretted by many whom she had befriended. As free with her criticism as with her money and advice, she made mistakes but they were those of the mind and not of the heart. She was a woman with a personality all her own and we greatly deplore her death.
