Mellon Joann Walker, 49, formerly of Holly Springs, Ark., died Sunday (May 11, 2003). At the time of her death she was living in Jonesboro, Ga.

She was born in Holly Springs on March 23, 1954, to the late Willis Alfred and the late Janie Luther Morris Walker. Upon graduating from Eastside High School in Menifee in 1972, she enrolled at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, where she majored in biology/pre-medicine. She graduated with honors in 1976.

She had been employed with Continental Airlines as a flight attendant for more than 20 years at the time of her death. She was respected by her colleagues and received many awards for superior service while employed with Continental Airlines.

Reared in a strong Christian family, she continued practicing her faith under the leadership of Creflo A. Dollar Sr. as a member of World Changers Church International in Atlanta, Ga., until the time of her death.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Francis Magdeline; and a nephew, Justin Luke Chuck Walker.

Survivors include her aunts, Francis Walker Johnson of Damascus, Ida "Pickey" Walker of Detroit, Mich., Bernice Morris Velie of Tulsa, Okla.; her uncles, Julius Morris of Tulsa and Claudius Alfonzo Morris of Los Angeles, Calif.; sisters, Evelyn E. Parker and Sandra L. Scott, both of Little Rock, and Mildred W. Greenlaw of Chicago, Ill; her brothers, Luther "Luke" A. Walker, Joseph E. Walker and Charles "Chuck" Walker, all of Pasadena, Calif., Willis W. Walker of Sherwood, Woodson D. Walker of Little Rock and McEdward Walker of Atlanta, Ga. She is survived by 38 nieces and nephews, 11 great nieces and a host of cousins and friends. A beloved daughter, sister, aunt, cousin and niece.
