LEMMING, Joel - Joel Lemming, one of the oldest and best known residents of this section, died at an early hour Monday morning at his home in this city after a long illness. the result of a stroke of paralysis. His condition had been serious for a month or more and his death was no surprise to relatives or friends who had been watching by his bedside for days. Funeral services were held at the First M.E. church Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 and were conducted by the pastor, Rev. H.R. Osborne. Mr. Lemming had been a member of this church for many years. Joel Lemming was a native of Tennessee and was born near Nashville, that state, April 19, 1846. His parents moved to Texas when he was a young child and then came to Arkansas when he was 12 years old. He enlisted in the Union army at the age of sixteen and was a member of Co. E, 1st Arkansas Cavalry. He was married August 14, 1869 to Miss Lucinda Ingraham, who died the 12th of last May. To them were born twelve children, two of whom died in infancy and ten of whom are living and are: James A. and W.D. Lemming of Pocatello, Idaho; Thomas J. Lemming of Drumright, Okla.; Joe Lemming, Jr. of Council Bluffs, Ia.; Rev. Lee R. Lemming of Humansville, Mo.; Arthur N. Lemming of Chicago; Mrs. Mary Ingersoll of Salina, Okla.; Mrs. M.C. Johnson and Mrs. George Robertson of Rogers. He is also survived by eighteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Practically all of Mr. Lemming's life was spent on the farm and he only came to town a few years ago after his health became such that he was unable to look after his place, a few miles southwest of Rogers, where he had lived for a quarter of a century or more. He was a man of many splendid qualities and virtues and he had an unusually large circle of acquaintances and friends.

LEMMING, Lucinda Catherine INGRAM - Mrs. Lucinda C. Lemming, wife of Joel Lemming, died Thursday morning May 12th at an early hour at their home at No. 604 North Third street at the age of 72 years, three months and eight days. She had been in poor health for several months but her condition had been serious for only a few days, the children all having been notified the first of the week that her illness was thought to be critical. Funeral services were held at the First M.E. church Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock and were conducted by the pastor, Rev. H.L. Osborne assisted by Rev. T.E. McSpadden of the Presbyterian church, and Rev. J.D. Boles. Burial in Rogers cemetery. Many friends from the country were present for the family had lived several miles southwest of Rogers for many years, moving to Rogers about four years or so ago. The deceased was held in the highest esteem by a large circle of friends and neighbors. Lucinda Catherine Ingram was born in Washington county, Ark. February 3, 1846. She was married Aug. 16, 1864 to Joel Lemming and to this union was born twelve children, ten of whom with her husband survive her. The children are: James A. and W.D. Lemming of Pocatello, Idaho; Thomas J. Lemming of Drumright, Okla.; Joe Lemming of Council Bluffs, Iowa; G. Elmer Lemming of Portland, Oregon; Rev. Lee R. Lemming of Russellville, Ark.; Arthur N. Lemming of Chicago; Mrs. Mary Ingersoll of Salina, Okla.; Mrs. M.C. Johnson and Mrs. George Robertson of Rogers. She is also survived by nineteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
