DOAN, Edgar Erwin - While it was realized from the very first that the chances were against the recovery of Ed Doan, who was run over by the auto truck at Springdale two weeks ago, it was only within the last day or so that Mr. Doan himself and the family gave up hope for his recovery. He made a hard fight for life and was conscious up to within a few minutes before his death which occurred yesterday noon a little after one o'clock at his home on West Cypress street. Mr. Doan was riding on the running board of the truck and was thrown off when it struck a culvert, rolling under the rear wheel, which passed over the right side of the body. His lung was injured and he suffered other internal injuries that would have brought death quickly to a person with less grit and determination to recover. Less than an hour before his death the Democrat editor called to see him and found him conscious. He said, "Good bye, Mr. Funk; I guess I'm about all in but I'm not afraid to die. It is all right with me." Funeral services will be held at the Christian church Friday afternoon at two o'clock and will be conducted by Rev. M.L. Anthony. Edgar Erwin Doan was born October 19, 1880 at Bellefontaine, Ohio. He went to Oklahoma with his parents at the age of 19 and was an M.K. & T. brakeman for ten years. He was injured at Muskogee and quit railroading. After traveling for a time as a salesman, came to Rogers three and one half years ago. He was married to Mrs. Clara M. Bowen Duckworth March 29, 1911. Last fall they built a home on West Cypress and opened a grocery store on the lot adjoining. At the time of the accident at Springdale Mr. Doan was on his way to Huntsville where he was to open a restaurant and bakery with Bert Fleek. Mr. Doan was a son of Mrs. C.E. Bently of this city and also leaves a brother, Chas. Doan of Miami, Okla. His father lives at Miami and was expected yesterday morning but his train missed connection at Monett and he could not get here. Mr. Doan was a very popular young man and had a large circle of friends in Rogers and surrounding country. We join with the community in extending sympathy to the heartbroken wife and mother.
