February 14, 1931 - April 16, 1963
Patrolman Jerrell Vaughan was shot and killed after he stopped a vehicle that had left the scene of a dispute earlier in the night. As Officer Vaughan approached the suspect’s vehicle, the suspect exited and shot Officer Vaughan once in the chest. Before he died, Officer Vaughan was able to return fire, striking the suspect five times in the chest. The suspect survived and was later convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison.
Officer Vaughan was survived by his wife, son and daughter.
