ROGERS — L. Raymond Stapleton, age 85, of Rogers, died Dec. 23, 2010, at Northwest Medical Center in Bentonville. He was born at West Alva, Okla., on Nov. 15, 1925, to the late Lester and Anna (Davis) Stapleton.

Raymond was proud of his service to his country during the latter part of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy. He graduated with a bachelor of science degree in education from Emporia State Teacher's College and taught school for three years in Kansas. He retired from the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration after 33 years.

Locally, he was a softball coach for girls' teams with the Rogers Youth Center, and was a member of the American Legion, Post 100, in Rogers.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Anna Stapleton, of the home; children, Sheryl Dotson of Bentonville, Steven Stapleton and wife Cheryl of Waynesville, Mo., Mitchell Stapleton and wife Hannelore of Tulsa, Okla.; grandchildren, Jessica Butler of Rogers, Crystal Hulse of Gravette, Amanda Bosley of Bentonville, Nathan Stapleton of Waynesville, Mo., Timothy Stapleton of Jefferson City, Mo., Aaron Stapleton of Rogers; and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters, Eva VanFossen, Ida Kraus, Ruby Johnson; and nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 27, 2010, at Callison-Lough Funeral Horne, Rogers. Funeral service's will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday in the Chapel of Callison-Lough Funeral Home, Rogers, officiated by Pastor David Hadsell and Pastor Brad Dick.

Memorials, in lieu of flowers, should be made to the Rogers Youth Center Scholarships, c/o Pagnozzi Charities, 100 E. Poplar, Suite A, Fayetteville, AR 72703.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Callison-Lough Funeral Home in downtown Rogers.
