Phillip Clair Durham

MARVELL -- Phillip Clair Durham, 85, of Marvell, a self-employed carpenter, died Friday, Oct. 27, 2006, in Arkansas Hospice NLR Inpatient Center, North Little Rock.

He was born July 15, 1921 in Vanndale.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar Sinclair Durham and Carrie A. Jones Durham; a son, Phillip Durham Jr.; and his brothers, Willie Dee, Hal, Benford and Lagrone Durham.

Mr. Durham lived in Quitman and Marvell since 1981. In addition to being a carpenter, he farmed and worked on a river boat. He enjoyed hard work, hunting, fishing and had many friends. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy.

He is survived by his wife, Wilma Flentje Durham of Memphis; stepdaughters, Peggy Simpson of Bono, Mona Campbell and Cindy Warren; brothers, Basil Durham of Memphis, Ben Durham of Vanndale and Russell Durham of Marvell; a sister, Mary Ella Shannon of Olive Branch, Miss.; a grandson, Ricky Durham of Garland, Texas; and several nephews and nieces.

Service will be held at Kernodle Funeral Home Chapel, Wynne, at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 30, 2006 with burial in Cogbill Cemetery at Wynne.

Visitation hours will be from 6-8 tonight at Kernodle Funeral Home.
