Obituary for Freda Inez Hartgraves Harber Conyers:
Freda Harber Conyers was born Nov. 23, 1918, to Ed and Annie Webb Hartgraves in Union, Ark.
She died Oct. 30, 2003, in Kansas City, Kan., at the age of 84.
She married Amos Harber Oct. 29, 1934. To this union one daughter was born. They enjoyed 31 happy years together. He preceded her in death Feb. 18, 1965.
She was a member of the Oxford Church of Christ until moving to Kansas City, Kan., where she became a member of the Westside congregation. Her life as a Christian influenced many people. She worked in nursing homes as a CNA until retiring.
She married Henry Conyers Aug. 29, 1967. He preceded her in death March 28, 1999. They also enjoyed 31 happy years together.
Survivors include her daughter, Rose Ann Porterfield and husband, Norman of Kansas City, Kan.; two stepchildren -- Anita Kochevar and Don Conyers; three grandchildren -- Dennis Porterfield and wife, Monica, Duane Porterfield and wife, Cindi and Doyle Porterfield and wife, Laura; six great-grandchildren -- Michael, Ryan, Faye Ann, Joshua, Derek and Lynsi Poterfield; three stepgreat-grandchildren -- Kelli Benjamin and husband Mike, and Kyle and Kalvin Thorne; eight additional stepgrandchildren and 11 step-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by five brothers, three sisters and her father and mother.
Services were Nov. 4 at Oxford Church of Christ with Burial in Oxford Cemetery at Oxford, Ark. Arrangements were under the direction of Cox-Blevins Funeral Home of Salem.
[Note: She is buried beside her first husband and shares a double gravestone with him with the surname of Harber even though her surname was Conyers for the last 36 years of her life.]
