Benton Harris Burnett was born 3 August 1915 to Charles Robert and Hallie Biles Burnett of Wynne, Arkansas. He and his two brothers, Roland and Don, and four sisters, Mildred, Wilma, Flora Mae and Marian, grew up as part of the Wynne community. After graduating from Wynne High School, Benton attended the University at Fort Logan, Colorado, for administrative AAF Training.
Benton married Beverly Daniel and they were the parents of two daughters, Beverly Wells Burnett (deceased) and Marian Burnett Wadkins, and grandparents to two grandsons, Elijah Daniel Wadkins and Lucas Wells Wadkins.
Benton was inducted into the Army Air Corps 13 October 1941. He was the first draftee called in Cross County. At Camp Robinson, Arkansas, he declared his preference for the Air Corps and was assigned to Keesler Field, Biloxi, Mississippi. Due to deafness in one ear, Benton was unable to go overseas. He administered an Air Base in Harvard, Nebraska.
Benton was discharged 5 December 1945 and returned to Wynne and established Burnett Truck Line with his brother, Don. Benton loved to fish, was a world traveler and enjoyed gourmet food and restaurants. The Burnett Truck Line under Benton and Don's supervision was a a vital part of the Wynne economy. Benton served as president of Wynne Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce, and was a member of the Wynne Airport Commission.
He retired from Burnett Truck Line in 1984 and died 10 December 1985. Benton was buried in Cogbill Cemetery in Wynne.
