Stephen Lewis King

Stephen Lewis King, 81, Bentonville, died Thursday at Bates Memorial Hospital. He was born January 31, 1894, in Rogers and lived in the area his entire life.

He came in 1911 with his father to Bentonville where they established the city's first ice and cold storage facility which they operated for many years. He was also employed at Eagle Mills for several years. Mr. King was bailiff for Benton County Circuit Court for the past 16 years in addition to serving as a Bentonville city councilman for several years. He was a veteran of World War One and a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was also a member of First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his widow, Pearl Stroud King, of the home; a sister, Helen Williams, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; and a cousin, Warren Felker, Rogers.

Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at First United Methodist Church in Bentonville with the Rev. Sam Teague officiating. Burial will be in Pea Ridge Cemetery under the direction of Callison-McKinney Funeral Home of Bentonville. A memorial has been established at Bates Memorial Hospital.
