Nancy Avant Ables died July 27, 1962 at the age of 80 years. She was born October 12, 1881 in Calhoun County. She was united in marriage on February 12, 1906 to Charles Wesley Ables. To this union, eight children were born. Survivors include her husband; five sons, Clyde Ables, Terrell Ables, Herbert Ables and Tilman Ables, all of Hampton; and Barnie Ables of El Dorado; one daughter, Mrs. Nell Blackmon of Calion; 19 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Curvis and Dowell. Funeral services were held on Saturday afternoon from Trinity Chapel by Rev. Otis Reddin and Rev. C. A. Stubbs, followed by interment at Pickett Cemetery. Pallbearers were Bill Avant, Jerrell Avant, Russell Avant, Willie Ray Avant, Lem Blakely and Sam McDuffie. (Calhoun Herald - August 2, 1962)
