Ethel Ford, Poet, Dies

ROGERS — Edsel Ford, award-winning Arkansas poet, died Thursday at a Little Rock hospital after undergoing brain surgery.

Ford, 41, who lived at Fort Smith and was formerly of Rogers, had won many awards, including the Alice Fay de Casiagnola award presented by the Poetry Society of America at New York in 1966 for an unfinished collection entitled "A Landscape for Dante."

The society also had presented him the Arthur Davison Ficke Memorial Award and the Lowell Mason Palmer Award.

In 1968 he received the Devins Memorial Award in the Kansas City poetry contest.

Ford set most of his writings in the Ozark hill Country.

He was born Dec. 30, 1923 in Eva, Ala., was a veteran of the Korean War and a member of the Methodist Church.

He is survived by his father, James T. Ford of Route 4, Rogers; a brother, James of Port Hueneme, Calif. and two sisters, Mrs. Willodene White of Bentonville and Mrs. Imogene Hinesly of Odessa, Tex.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Callison Chapel with burial in Benton County Memorial Gardens.

Memorials may be sent to the Edsel Ford Scholarship Fund at the journalism department of the University of Arkansas.
