Reynolds Services At Oxford

Wesley David Reynolds, a son of the late Malachi and Polly Williams Reynolds was born near Wideman February 4, 1872 and passed away at his home in Oxford November 1, 1960 at the age of 88 years, 8 months and 28 days. His death was not unexpected as he had passed through a long and lingering illness.

He was married near Newburg on August 22, 1891 to Miss Connie Carder who survives him. They were the parents of eight children, three of whom (two sons and a daughter) preceded their father in death. The surviving children are: Mrs. Jesse Kent (Betty), Mrs. Leonard Wyatt (Florence), and Mrs. Shelby Yancey (Lela) all of Oxford; and Mrs. Carl Montgomery (Callie) of Pullman, Washington and Mrs. Elza Mason (Veda) of Brewster, Washington. Other survivors include two brothers, Ezell Reynolds of Brockwell and Oscar Reynolds of Melbourne; three sisters, Mrs. Clara Foree of Conway, Mrs. Neely Hammond of Wideman and Mrs. Ruth Thrasher of Tulsa, Okla.; nine grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.

Mr. Reynolds was converted in early life and became a member of the Pleasant Grove Methodist Church. He retained membership there until a few years ago when he placed his membership in the Oxford Methodist Church. He lived a consistent and faithful Christian until the end.

The deceased was a retired farmer and had been a resident of Oxford for several years preceding his death.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, November 2, at the Oxford Methodist Presbyterian Church with Rev. Remmel Rowden officiating.

The memorial songs were directed by Graydon Bone, with Mrs. Tressie Edmonston serving as pianist. Burial was made in the Oxford Cemetery by Carter Funeral Service with Al and May Pomeroy, directors, in charge. Casket bearers were; Ed Kankey, Arthur Harris, John Taylor, Hershel Parish, Ernest Helm and Kermit McSpadden.
