Harold Ray "Jack" Rowden the husband of Hazel Lavauna (Fleming) Rowden. Harold Ray "Jack" Rowden son of Otis Rowden and Mattie (Franks) Rowden. Hazel Lavauna (Fleming) Rowden born in Oxford, Izard County, Arkansas and died Mountain Home, Baxter County, Arkansas.


Harold "Jack" R. Rowden

Harold Ray “Jack” Rowden, 95, of Salem, Arkansas, passed away, Saturday, May 25, 2019 in Calico Rock, Arkansas.

He was the third child born to Otis and Mattie (Franks) Rowden on October 14, 1923 in Oxford, Arkansas. He was united in marriage to Hazel Lavauna Fleming on January 29, 1948 in Salem, Arkansas at the Salem Methodist Church.

Jack is a Veteran of the United States Army serving with distinction in WWII in the following campaigns: Normandy, Northern France, the Rhineland, and Central Europe. He earned four Bronze Stars for courage and bravery under fire. On his return to the states he worked for his father at Rowden Furniture Store in Salem. Jack later moved to St. Louis and drove for Gateway Trucking and was transferred to Atlanta where he worked until retirement and relocated back to Salem. Jack enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and dancing at various local gatherings.

Jack is survived by his two sisters, Virginia Hale Brewer of Fayettville, Arkansas and Betty Cochran of Lee’s Summitt, Missouri; special niece, Willetta Rowden Everett; nine nephews and six nieces.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Rowden; best friends, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Noble and Willa Rhea F. Rowden; brother, Paul Rowden and two sisters, Nova R. Robbins and Evelyn R. King.

Pallbearers include: Randy Everett, Glendon Everett, Drew Foster, Mike King, Ben King and Terry King.

A funeral service will be Thursday, May 30, 2019 at the Salem Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Salem, Arkansas beginning at 4:00 PM with Bro. Bobby Coleman officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service beginning at 3:00 PM. Burial with full Military Honors at Oxford Cemetery in Oxford, Arkansas.

The family would like to thank White River Healthcare for the wonderful caring service they provided to Jack.

Hazel Lauvon Rowden of Salem daughter of the late John Hubert Fleming and Amanda Blevins Fleming, was born June 5, 1923 in Oxford. She died September 4, 1998 at Baxter County Regional Hospital in Mountain Home. She was 75.

Mrs Rowden was united in marriage to Harold Ray “Jack” Rowden January 30, 1948 in Salem. She was employed for 13 years by White Rogers Electric in St. Louis, Missouri. She attended services at Salem Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include her husband of the home in Salem; one sister Willa Rhea Rowden and husband Noble of Oxford; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Remmel and Carrol Fleming and her parents.

Services were held September 4, 1998 at Salem Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Bobby Coleman officiating.

Interment was at Oxford Cemetery under the direction of Cox-Estes Funeral Home in Salem.
