Joe Al Stewart, 80, of Timbo died Monday, May 4, 2009, in the Baptist Hospital in Little Rock, after a lengthy illness.
He was born June 25, 1928, in Mountain View to John Stewart and Unia Clark. Preceding him in death were his parent; first wife, Maxella (Mitchell) Stewart; and brother, Howard Stewart. Survivors include his wife of 23 years, Wanda Farris Stewart; a brother, Bob Stewart; and nephews, Eddie, Mike and Garry Stewart; stepdaughters, Jan Partain and Cheryl Good and husband Scott; and six grandchildren, David, John, Clint, Brandon, Cheyenne and Dylan Good.
After three years of service in the U.S. Army, also serving in Korea, Joe returned to his home in Stone County where he lived most of his life surrounded by the friends, family and mountains he loved so much. Joe was a Shriner and a 32nd Degree Mason.
Joe served as principal for the Mountain View Elementary School for over 30 years and retired in 1990. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Joe Al Stewart Scholarship Fund, c/o First Service Bank, P.O. Box 1106, Mountain View, AR 72560. Checks can be made out to First Service Bank – MEMO: Joe Stewart Scholarship. Visitation is scheduled for 5:30 – 7:30 p.m., Thursday, May 7, at Roller Crouch Funeral Home in Mountain View.
The funeral service will be at noon Friday, May 8, at Timbo Valley assembly of God Church, with Bro. David Campbell and Bro. Frank Curtis officiating. Burial will be in Timbo Cemetery, Timbo, AR.
Roller Crouch Funeral Home of Mountain View is in charge of the arrangements.
