B. B. Martin Dies Sunday at Age of 83

B. B. Martin, age 83, one of the county’s oldest and best known citizens, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. C. O. Forrest, at this place, Sunday night. He had been in bad health for several months.

Mr. Martin was born at Oxford April 14, 1866 and was a resident of Oxford during his entire lifetime, except for the past few months when he made his home here. He was married on December 13, 1887 to Miss Mary Dowdle. Had he lived until next December, they would have celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary. To this union eight children were born, two of whom preceded their father in death.

Mr. Martin was a highly respected citizen and leaves many friends and relatives to mourn his passing. He was a devout member of the Methodist Church, having united with the Methodist Church at Saver Campground at the age of 24.

Besides many other relatives, he is survived by his wife, of this place; two daughters, Mrs. Virgie Forrest of Calico Rock and Miss Bessie Martin of Jonesboro; four sons, Oler and Leslie Martin of Oxford, Ezra Martin of Calico Rock and Ozro Martin of Tupelo. Ark.

Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Luther K. Wilson of Calico Rock, were held at the Methodist Church at Oxford, Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock. Burial was in the Oxford cemetery, with the Roller Funeral Service in charge.
