Charles R. Friend of Oxford, son of the late William E. and Marie Nona Holloway Friend was born December 29, 1929 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He died March 16, 1996 at Fulton County Hospital in Salem. He was 76.
Mr. Friend was a retired ironworker and carpenter in the Los Angles, California area.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara J. Sosebee Friend of the home; one son William Fred Friend of South San Gabriel, California; one daughter, Linda Marie Valentine of Victorville, California; two grandchildren, Gina Friend and Jerry Valentine; and one great grandchild, Robert Charles Marks. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Robert McDowell and one sister, Helen Northington.
Services were held March 20, 1996 at the Crouch Chapel in Melbourne with with Leonard Williams officiating.
Pallbearers were Charlie Pummell, Bob Ramsey, John Foust, Terry Overturf, Pete Secrest and Ronnie Qualls.
Interment was at the Oxford Cemetery in Oxford under the direction of Crouch Funeral Home in Melbourne.
