Mr. Thomas Degges, 77, of Crossett, died Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at his residence. Mr. Degges was a native of Hamburg and a resident of the Maplevale Community, south of Hamburg, for most of his life. He graduated from Hamburg High School in 1950 and he was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a farmer and worked as a paper maker for Georgia-Pacific for over 30 years. He was a faithful member and Deacon of the Maplevale Missionary Baptist Church for over 45 years.
He is preceded in death by his first wife, Bessie Maudine Coody Degges; his parents, Ira Dwight & Annie Eva Gibbs Degges; two brothers, Lamar Dwight Degges & Leslie Edward Degges and a sister, Frances Walker.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Shirley Watson Degges of Crossett; three sons, Lamar Thomas Degges of Beekman, Louisiana, Ronald Carmen Degges of Fargo, North Dakota, Daniel Jason Degges of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; a daughter, Charre Degges Todd of Crossett; a brother, Ira Donald Degges of Nashville, Tennessee; two sisters, Marceil Davis of Angleton, Texas and Eva Morgan of Houston, Texas; seven grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Funeral services are 10 a.m., Saturday, October 3, 2009 in the Maplevale Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Sam Tamburo and Rev. Joey Grappe officiating. Burial will be in the Antioch Cemetery. Pallbearers are Courtney Todd, Bradley Todd, Josh Degges, Jimmy Don Gillum, Joey Miller, Bruce Degges and Markel Davis. Honorary pallbearers are the Men of the Maplevale Missionary Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to the Maplevale Missionary Baptist Church, 3331 HWY 425 S., Hamburg, AR 71646.
