Nola Vester Helm Kankey of Pineville, daughter of the late Arthur T. and Lula Webb Helm was born January 24, 1911 in Oxford. She departed this life on December 10, 2002 in Calico Rock. She was 91 years old.

Mrs. Kankey was united in marriage to Edker Kankey on June 17, 1928 in Wideman and to this union four children were born.

She spent her life as a homemaker, wife , mother, and grandmother and was a member of the Oxford Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Murrell Kankey of Pineville and Gaylon and Marcella Kankey of North Richland Hills, Texas; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Donetta Hall; one son, Dwayne Kankey; two brothers, Earl and Eathel Helm; four sisters, Lora Sexton, Gladys Sexton, Geneva Mason, Naoma Collins; one grandchildren, Donna Jean Lawrence.

Funeral services will be held Friday December 13, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at the Oxford Baptist Church with Arthur Barber officiating. Pallbearers will be Ronnie Hall, Joe Kankey, Greg Kankey, Vic Kankey, Darrell Sherrell, Alan Sherrell. Honorary pallbearers will be Rachel Dillard, Berniece Sherrell, Velma Webb, Dulah Singleton, Janet Yancey, Janice Blankenship, Imogene Shaddix, and Mary Ellen Hawkins.

Interment will be at Oxford Cemetery under the direction of Eddie’s Family Funeral Home in Melbourne.
