White River Current, Calico Rock, Arkansas, March 23, 2001:

Lora Sexton of Oxford, daughter of the late Arthur and Lula Webb Helm, was born June 18, 1907 at Oxford. She died March 17, 2001. She was 93.

Mrs. Sexton grew up and attended school in Oxford. Her young years were centered around the care of her ill mother and helped in the care of the younger children. The family lived on a farm and experienced the same concerns as others who live through the Depression era.

On December 1, 1929, she married Sterling Sexton. The early years of their marriage were spent farming. They lived two years in Indiana in the mid-1940s, then moved back to Arkansas where they owned a service station at Oxford. In 1956, they moved to Wenatchee, Washington, where Lora worked as a sorter in the fruit industry. They retired and returned to Arkansas in 1974.

Mrs. Sexton became a Christian at the age of 15, which was the beginning of a lifelong dedication of love for her Lord. She was a member of Oxford Baptist Church. Her life of dedicated Christian commitment, a strong work ethic, honesty and an ever ready wit endeared her to all who knew her.

She was a seamstress who loved to sew. She also enjoyed working in her garden and canning what she grew.

Survivors include her daughter June Huber of Wenatchee, Washington; one granddaughter, Debbie Bernier of Wenatchee, Washington; one grandson, Miles Huber of Shoreline, Washington; two sisters, Vester Kankey of Oxford; and Gladys Sexton of Indianapolis, Indiana; several nieces and nephews and a special friend Jim Sherrell. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sterling Sexton, her son-in-law, Gene Huber; two sisters, Naoma Collins and Geneva Mason; two brothers, Earl and Esthul Helm; and her parents.

Funeral services were held March 19, 2001 at Oxford Baptist Church. Pallbearers were Ronnie Hall, Demolee Floyd, Darrell Sherrell, David Floyd, Joe Kankey and James Sherrell. Honorary pallbearers were Radhel Dillard, Bernice Sherrell, Velma Webb, Dulah Singleton, Janey Yancey, Esterlee Sherrell and Janice Blankenship.

Interment was at Oxford Cemetery under the direction of Eddie’s Family Funeral Home of Melbourne.
