Homer Freeman, youngest of the Freeman brothers who operate an extensive timber and sawmill business near Buffalo, met with a fatal accident on Monday afternoon, the 24th, that resulted in his death the following Saturday night at Batesville.
Mr. Freeman, with one of his brothers, had gone to the woods about a mile from the mill to haul some logs. The last log was being rolled onto his wagon and he was stationed at the side of the wagon to catch the log with a cant hook when it rolled over the wagon onto him. He was mashed to the ground, the log falling across the small of his back, his head being forced in against his chest. The other two men, 'Bully' Freeman and Jesse Staley, rushed to him as quickly as possible and with much difficulty lifted the log from the young man. He was removed to Burffalo and doctors were summoned, Dr. Smith going from here.
Examination showed that the young man's back was broken, besides having suffered serious internal injuries and paralysis of the lower limbs. He was taken to Batesville, Tuesday night, but his injuries were of such seriousness that recovery was impossible.
