PORTIA -- Sherman Lavelle Clark, 84, of Portia died Tuesday, July 22, at his home.

Born at Black Rock, he was a retired bookkeeper for Clark Construction, a former mayor and alderman at Portia and was a member of Black Rock Masonic Lodge No. 476.

Survivors include his wife, Francis Clark of the home; and one daughter, Barbara Clark of the home; three brothers, Ralph Clark and Leroy Clark, both of Walnut Ridge and Victor Clark of Portia.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther S. and Aurora Corbert Clark; and three brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. at the Church of Christ in Portia. A Masonic service and burial will follow at Hope Cemetery in Imboden, under the direction of Higginbotham Funeral Service of Walnut Ridge.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

PORTIA - Frances M. Clark, 88, of Portia died Thursday evening, Feb. 2, 2012, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

She was born Sep. 27, 1923, in Black Rock to the late Frank McCarroll and Johnnie Ward McCarroll Alvarez. She married S. Lavelle Clark in Pocahontas on Feb. 29, 1948. She was a homemaker and member of the Portia Church of Christ.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Lillian Weir and Willie McBride.

She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Clark of Portia; and sister, Flossie Wilson of Malvern; two brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law, Vic and Patsy Clark of Portia and Ralph Clark of Walnut Ridge. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive her.

The service will be in the funeral home chapel at 2 p.m. today with Robert Davis and Darrell Douglas officiating. Burial will follow in the Hope Cemetery at Imboden.

Honored to serve her as pallbearers are Jim Penn, C.L. Clark, Robert Shelton, Phillip Clark, Merle Mitchell and Vic Clark Jr.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Higginbotham Funeral Service of Walnut Ridge.
