Lonnie Melvin Colson, son of the late Henry and Marilda Unk Colson, was born July 3, 1915 in Mississippi. He died October 1, 1997 in Salem. He was 82.

Mr. Colson was united in marriage to Virginia Houghtaling July 18, 1962 in Crown Point, Indiana. He spent most of his life as a farmer and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his wife of the home; two daughters, Pearl Jean Billips of Paragould; and Bertha May Fulk of Culp; four sons, Henry Virgil Colson of Makanda, Illinois; Kenneth Eugene Colson of Unity, Illinois; Billy Joe Colson of Marion, Illinois and Thomas Wayne Houghtaling of Tennessee; twenty grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one wife, one son, one brother, two sisters and one step-sister.

Funeral services were held October 4, at the Roman & Billy Howard Memorial Chapel in Melbourne with Gilbert Gee officiating.

Pallbearers were Virgil Colson, Russell Colson, Steven Colson, Mark Billips, Charlie Billips and Robert Billips. Honorary pallbearers were J. Fulk and Johnny Colson.

Interment was at the Oxford Cemetery in Oxford under the direction of the Eddie Howard Funeral Home in Melbourne.
