CAPTAIN US Army
December 1820 - April 1910
"Rescued 17 children, the only survivors of the Mountain Meadows Massacre - 1857 - Utah"
Having never lost touch with the children, he visited the home of Sarah Dunlap after he had retired. Sarah had lost the use of one arm as a result of wounds she suffered in her mother's arms during the massacre and the loss of her sight as a result of a disease she acquired in Utah. On December 30, 1893 the 74 year-old adventurer married the 38 year-old orphan of the massacre.
