WHITESIDE, Thomas Clinton - In memory of Thomas Clinton Whiteside, who was born in Simpson county, Kentucky May 20th, 1869 and died at Kansas City, Mo. March 25th, 1912. He was the son of James W. and Henrietta Whiteside and moved with them to Benton county, Ark. when a child. His life since then was passed near Osage Mills, Benton county. He professed faith in Christ and was baptized into Temperance Hill Baptist church in his early manhood. Was married to Miss Naomi Douglas October 30th, 1891. To this union was born one daughter. By his industry and economy he had made for himself and family a comfortable home. Thus reads the chronicle of a man whose death has brought desolation to his home and sorrow to a large circle of friends. 'Twould be unjust to him to say he was without faults; no man is, but integrity, honesty and fidelity made the structure of his character and his supreme unselfishness marked every action of his life. No burden was too heavy, and no sacrifice too great for him to bear for others. His devotion to his mother, his wife and child was of a beauty seldom seen in a man, and his last conscious thoughts and words were not for himself but for his wife and child. He died at the South Side Hospital at Kansas City, Mo. where he had undergone an operation from which he had suffered for several years. How silently and bravely he had borne his great suffering no words can tell. His body was brought back home for burial and in our Barron cemetery, surrounded by his heart broken family and the friends of his youth and manhood, we laid him away in the red glow of a spring sunset. Sweet be your rest, dear Tom. We weep for your early going away.
