WIDEMAN — Clessie Hamilton Ward, 91, of Wideman died Sunday, July 16, 2006, in a Calico Rock hospital.
Born April 7, 1915, in Violet Hill, she was the daughter of John W. Hamilton and Mary Henrietta Dowdle. She was a homemaker and a caregiver. She attended Forrest Chapel Church in Violet Hill and was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Wideman.
Survivors include two stepsons, Orbra Ward of Melbourne and J.H. Ward of Oxford; a stepdaughter, Mavis Jones of Wideman; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three husbands, Elvice Abbott, Otis Yancey and Kirby Ward; three brothers, Roy Hamilton, Wesley Hamilton and Ernest Hamilton; and a stepson, Hale Yancey.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Roman and Billy Howard Memorial Chapel in Melbourne with Charles McDaniels and Loye Vern Mason officiating. Burial will be in Forrest Chapel Cemetery near Violet Hill under the direction of Eddie’s Family Funeral Home in Melbourne.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Ward, Greg Ward, James Yancey, Tom Norvold, Danny Ramsey and Jim Ramsey.
Honorary pallbearer is Arnold J. Ramsey.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
Memorials may be made to the charity of choice.
Note: She is buried beside her first husband with a double gravestone with the surname of Abbott; however, she outlived three husbands and was a Ward at the time of her death.
