The Ramon Bradford Memorial Scholarship was founded at FHS in memory of Bradford, an assistant basketball coach who died in a car accident while traveling home from an away game in 1995. A Fayetteville native, Bradford attended Jefferson Elementary, Ramay Junior High School and graduated from Fayetteville High School in 1987, where he played on the last FHS basketball team to win the overall state championship, winning both the state tournament and the tournament of champions from all divisional levels. After playing college basketball in Oklahoma, Bradford moved back to Fayetteville to attend the University of Arkansas. Bradford became an assistant basketball coach at FHS in 1991.
FHS basketball head coach Barry Gebhart said Bradford was "probably one of most loved people I've ever been around." According to Gebhart, the scholarship is awarded each spring to a graduating senior who represents the character and leadership skills that Bradford possessed.
"While in high school, Ramon was involved in many organizations aside from athletics, including Student Council and PBS (Promotion of Black Students)," said Gebhart. "Ramon was a leader, an outstanding student and could communicate with people in a way that not many people can."
