KNOX, John H. - J.H. Knox, a former resident of the Centerton community, died at The Dalles, Ore. Tuesday, according to a message received yesterday afternoon by his sisters, Mrs. James Grimsley of Vaughn and Mrs. James Bolton of Centerton. The body will be brought back here for burial. Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at the Gamble cemetery, northwest of Centerton, where his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Jackson Knox, and his wife, Mrs. Jessie Knox, are also buried. Mr. Knox was born near Centerton but left here when about 15 years old for the Pacific northwest which has since been his home. He had made frequent visits back here and on his last visit 2 years ago suffered a stroke of paralysis from which he has been an invalid since. He was about 56 years old. Two brothers, Bert Knox of Golden Dale, Wash. and Floyd Knox of Condon, Ore. survive him.

John H. Knox was born near Centerton, Benton County, Ark. Oct. 8th, 1869. He died at Portland, Ore. May 13th, 1929. At an early age he left Arkansas and made his home in the west, living most of the time in Oregon. He was twice married; first to Miss May Scank of Salt Lake City, Utah to which union there was born two sons, Bert and Lloyd. His second marriage was to Miss Jessie Kerr, whose father now resides in Tahlequah, Okla. Mrs. Kerr Knox died December 17th, 1928. Mr. Knox while visiting his wife's relatives in 1928 made a public profession of his faith in Jesus Christ. Funeral services were conducted at the Methodist Church in Centerton on Monday afternoon by Rev. J.L. Justice, assisted by Rev. F.R. Jones and burial was in the Gamble Cemetery. He is survived by two sons, Bert and Lloyd, both of Oregon and who accompanied the body of their father to Centerton for burial, and four sisters: Mrs. Florence Sanders, Mrs. May Ward, Mrs. Jennie Bolton and Mrs. James Grimsley.
