Henley Lafayette Kirby, aged 84, died Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at his home nine miles southwest of Bentonville following a stroke of apoplexy of about 8 o’clock that morning while working in the field with his son, Marshall Kirby.

The funeral is being held at 2:00 o’clock this afternoon at the Old Temperance Hill Church, near Vaughn, of which he was a member, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. Arthur Hart, with burial in Barron cemetery. The Burns Funeral Home of Bentonville is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Mr. Kirby was born Jan. 22nd, 1852, at the old Kirby homestead two miles from the farm on which he died. He was a son of Albert G. and Lucinda Kirby. They were natives of Frankford, Ky., who came to Northwest Arkansas and settled in this county in 1851.

His wife was Elizabeth Beach and they were married at Greenville, Texas, Aug. 20th, 1872. She died March 15th, 1933.

Mr. Kirby is survived by four sons and two daughters. They are J.M. Kirby, Rogers, Ark.; A. G. and H.B. Kirby, Sapulpa, Okla., Marshall A. Kirby, living on a farm adjoining his father’s; Mrs. Amzl Gailey of Gentry, and Mrs. Lucy Perkins, who was living with her father. There are also 21 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

KIRBY, Minerva Elizabeth BEACH - Mrs. Fayette Kirby died on Tuesday night at the Kirby home southeast of Vaughn. She was about 80 years of age. Funeral services were held this Thursday afternoon at the Old Temperance Hill Church. Burial will be made in the Barron cemetery. Mrs. Kirby was born in Texas and came to Benton County about 60 years ago. Shortly afterwards she met and married Mr. Kirby. Besides her husband she is survived by four sons, J.M. Kirby of Rogers; M.A. Kirby of the Bentonville community; H.B. and A.G. Kirby of Sapulpa, Okla.; and by two daughters, Mrs. Lucy Perkins of Bentonville and Mrs. Delpha Gailey of Gentry. She also is survived by 23 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Minerva Elizabeth Beach was born March 27, 1859 at Greenville, Texas. Her parents dying when she was a small child she was raised by her grandparents and uncle with whom she came to Benton County when a girl of 14 years of age. August 20, 1873 she was married to H.L. Kirby. To this union were born seven children, four boys and three girls. Six of the children survive. Mrs. Maud Gailey of Hiwasse, the oldest daughter, preceded her mother in death some four or five years ago. Her children who survive are: Jim of Lowell; H.B. an dA.G. of Sapulpa, Okla.; Mrs. Delpha Gailey of Gentry; Lucy and Marshall of the home. When Sister Kirby was young she professed faith in Christ and united with the Baptist Church of Old Temperance Hill. She was a faithful witness for her Master, always ready to help those who came her way. She will be greatly missed by her many friends and loved ones. She was loyal to the church and Sunday School and will be greatly missed from her place. Funeral services were held last Thursday at Old Temperance Hill Church, Rev. Clarence Coffelt in charge. Her body was laid to rest in Barron Cemetery.
